Review: 24

I finally got around to watching the season premiere of 24 last night. Even though it was about three ours long, it didn't really feel that long.

There were points during the premiere that reminded me of the first season. There was that tension of what was going to happen and as critical decisions had to be made. Not since season 1 has 24 been able to capture that feeling.

The problem with shows like this is that the tension hinges on the plausibility or believability of what happens. In the first episode, one of the characters was downloading code from Microsoft and Adobe. In the process, he stumbles across some sort of worm.

First of all, if he was downloading code, he wouldn't see streaming source. At best, he would get one big file that took only a few seconds to download. Second, how could he have seen the worm, or whatever it was, be uploaded to the internet? The only way you could see that was if you had access to the server on which the worm was uploaded. Even then, you wouldn't see the source of the worm. Third, if he had seen the source of the worm, it would most likely be in english.

Considering that this worm seems to play a fairly major role in the polt, it's hard to believe the rest of the show when they can't even get this right.

I can understand if this was in the early 90s or the late 80s when computers weren't so prevalent. Back then, it'd be easy to show this stuff because no one had a clue how that stuff worked. Now a days, a lot of people know the internet. Couldn't Fox get some conultants in to tell them what was realistic and what wasn't?

With gadgets and what not, I'm a little more leniant with. It's not that far fetched that these agencies would have all this weird tech. But when it involves such a large entity, such as the internet, it needs to be a little more real.

Still, I'm enjoying the season so far. I don't feel the urgency or the sense of danger of seasons 1 or 2, but it is still interesting enough.

The best thing is probably how a lot of people die every hour. Especially annoying characters. The sooner they die, the better. I'd like to see the 24 writers to take more risks and have even more people die. That would be hot.
