Review: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Tonight, I watched Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Part of me actually wants to say that this was worse than AVP. At least with AVP I wasn't bored to the point where I wanted to turn it off.
With AVP, you have two mythos that you are building upon. You don't need to show that aliens are beasts, you already have four movies that do that. You don't need to show that predators are beasts, because you already have two movies that show that.
But Sky Captain has no such advatage. They try to put forth these great machines like mecha and flying contraptions, but they don't show their destructive potential. All you see are these robots walking down the street. One of them trips and is destroyed.
Now, wouldn't you think that who ever designed these mecha would have the foresight to have his machines not defeated by a little stone? I mean c'mon! Seriously.
If his machines can't wreak havoc, how am I supposed to believe that he's going to destroy the world. His robot tripped and blew up!
The acting is terrible too. I don't what it is about Gwenyth Paltrow, she's not attractive. She's not a good actress either. She's completely wooden and completely useless in this movie. If anything, she's a liability at best.
I understand that this is supposed to be a period piece, but c'mon, give it up with the cliches. I'm tired of the hero being stupid and letting the woman come along. If I was in his position, I would just shoot her in the leg so she wouldn't be able to follow me. Then she wouldn't be able to get in to any more trouble.
The dialogue is really weak too. Some parts are supposed to be kind of funny and cute, but they end up sounding cheesy and lame instead.
The whole thing is rediculous. 0.5/5. Terrible.
