Review: Mystic River
After dinner on Saturday, I went to M's place to watch Mystic River.
I had varying expectations going into the film. 1) Sean Penn's acting was supposed to be really good. 2) The film itself was kind of meh.
I don't know, I just couldn't really get in to it. Sean Penn's acting wasn't that good. It felt like he was acting the whole time. At no point did I think that he was actually hurting or whatever.
The pacing of the movie was also slow. It was to the point where I didn't really feel any tension or suspense. Instead, I wanted to just go to bed. I like deliberate films, but it needs to be gripping and engaging.
About half way through the film, I had pretty much figured out the ending. This probably lent it self to making the film drag. And since it worked so hard to push a particular line of thought, when the real killer was revealed, I didn't really care.
I guess the film was just hyped up too much for me.
