meet with tony
Tony and I met for a good two hours today at Brookside Diner. We talked about some Backup Girls and Catharsis. Tony just asked a lot of questions about the characters and the plots. Through his thought processes, he answered a lot of his own questions and sold himself on a lot of the ideas that were in the plots.
Both of us had skipped lunch, so we ordered kind of big. He ordered a hot open faced reuben, while I had myself a cheeseburger deluxe. I know I normally like to have breakfast at diners, but I had just been to the diner on Sunday.
We talked about some of the themes that I had in my scripts and how valid they were to people. We kicked around some ideas with Backup Girls; to give it more weight and more of a draw for the audience. The more we talked about it, the more we wanted to keep it the same. I propsed the idea that we should just take all those ideas that we brought up and make a sequal for it. Kind of how movie execs decide to make sequals even before the first one is out.
Tony and I then read through Catharsis. Not wanting to get too emotinally drained, I didn't put my all into it. After reading through it, we realized just how heavy the drama was. There's so much subtext in the script that it would require very talented actors to portray it without being cheesy or pablum. Again, all the comments that Tony brought up he would answer himself.
It was a very good two hours. We didn't spend the whole time talking about the scripts. We also talked a bit about just other stuff that's going on. Hopefully, we can continue to have these little meetings.
Incidentally, I had about 3 or 4 cups of coffee. About 3 or 4 more cups than I normally have. Needless to say, I got pretty wired from it.
