4 More Years
I don't know what it is about this election year. I don't know if it is the new garnered maturity of post-college education or something else, but I have had a disproportionate interest in politics.
A lot of times, I hear people say that they don't like either candidate and have to end up voting for the "lesser of two evils". If it were any other election, if it were any other political climate, I would tend to agree, but this year is different. This year, we are at war.
Some people, especially young people, have lost focus on what this election is about. It's not about welfare. It's not about social security. It's not about swift boat or the national guard. It's about the war and who is best to lead us through it. Plain and simple.
We can sit here and argue all day long whether we should have gone to war or not. And I'm sure one of us will stand victorious in the debate, but to what gain? What's the point in arguing if something should or shouldn't have happened? The truth is, it happened. Now, we have to face the reality of the situation and make the best of it.
We are at war, not against another nation, but against an ideology, a faith. Unlike the cold war, there was a face to our enemy: Russia, Korea, Vietnam. There is no face to terrorism. You cannot negotiate with this enemy. They are smart, radical, and murderous. They will not hesitate to take your life if given the opportunity. We need a leader who will stand up and face this enemy.
Yes, it is unfortunate that we have lost over 1,000 soldiers in Iraq, that is a shame. But they chose that career. There was no draft. There was no call for anyone who didn't want to go, to go. They signed up to serve and protect this country, and this is what they did. But better for us to go over there and kill them, then for them to come here and kill us.
This is what we're fighting for. Our freedoms and our way of life. 3 years ago, we were attacked and everything was different. Another threat is imminent. You look at the Chechnyennes and the Russians and the French and the Spanish. All of them under terrorist threat or attack. Are we somehow immune now? No. But as long as we stand up to the terrorists and show them that we will not back down, we will be victorious. Their threats of terror will have no effect.
Do you really believe that Kerry is the right man to stand up to these terrorists? All the scandals aside, this is a man who has no game plan. Throughout his campaign, Kerry has not said a single thing about what he will do once in office. Not about domestic policy, nor foreign policy. Sure, he says a lot of things that people want to hear, but in the end, he doesn't have a plan.
Bush has a plan. He is implementing that plan, and he is serving it hard to the terrorists. Is he the smartest man? No. Has he made some mistakes? Sure. But he made a promise three years ago to stand and fight for this country. Even in the face of opposition and public decent, he has kept that promise.
The media is so quick to point out Bush's mistakes, but what about his accomplishments? Why is the media so reluctant to report about that?
In the end, it is your job, as a citizen, to educate yourself on what is important to the fate of this country, not yourselfs. Sure, medicare and social security are all important issues. But they will still be around in four or eight years. You may not be around tomorrow if a nuke or a chem or bio bomb goes off. You decide what's worth more, some cash when you're 65, or being able to see the age of 65.
