Review: The Punisher
I don't know why I wanted to watch The Punisher, maybe because I was in one of those MST3K moods? I don't know. Part of me is glad that I saw it, and the other isn't.
The Punisher wasn't a good movie, not by any standard. But it was definately a funny movie. Not that it was meant to be funny, but just the poor dialogue, the terrible acting, and the predicatable script made it pretty easy to not only guess at what would happen next, but what would be said next as well. The screenwriter did shy away from some of the more obvious cliches, but the replacements weren't much better.
You would think that in a revenge film, especially one which involves a character like The Punisher, there would be a lot more gunfighting. I don't know if their budget was low or just wasted on the asinine ending, but there was virtually no gunfights. In the entire film, there were only 2 gunfights. One at the beginning when his family is killed and one at the end where he kills everyone else. There were plenty of other opportunties to see some cool gun duels, but they didn't go that route.
With all the flaws of the movie, it was quite enjoyable. I'm sure if I had been watching the movie on my own, it wouldn't be as enjoyable, but your miles will vary. If you catch it on TV, it might be worth watching, then again, if you're alone, you're better off watching commercials.
