Weekend Update

i was able to make comments on the few monologues that i did receive. overall, the monologues were good. the plots were clear and the characters interesting.

the main things that i made notes on were some of my opinions and cocerns. considering that a lot of the groups worked on their monologues independently of their partners, there was a bit of contradiction or inconsistancy. i pointed these issues out. i also looked at the language that was being used to see if it fit the character or was conducive to speaking.

i spent a good few hours working on four monologues. i was really impressed with joyce's writing and found very little fault in the language.

poker

around 8, a few of the boys (tim, steve, jwu, brian, gene, todd) came over to play some hold'em. it was todd's first time, so he was a little uneasy with playing but was able to hold his own. there was a few times that he could have pushed his hand but didn't.

overall, most of the hands were low, mostly pairs and two pairs ruled the night. there were a few straights, flushes, boats, and one four of a kind. but most of the hands were lousy.

the few hands that i had cards good enough to play, generally didn't fair too well. i found myself playing w/ Q 7 offsuit at times because i was the large or small blind. those few times that i had queens generally faired pretty well.

the craziest hand, was one where three kings flopped, a 3 on the turn, and then another 3 on the river. after this hand came out, we realized that we needed new decks to play with. the ones we had just weren't shuffling well.

applebee's

we ended poker around 11, and we a bit nippish, so after tossing around several ideas of where to dine, we decided on the old staple of applebee's. good old half priced appetizers.

we had a good time, just really catching up w/ each other. reminicing a bit and talking about different subjects. we noticed that we had a pretty diverse group. almost everyone was from a different school.

soul purpose

today's session went pretty well. the triple helix team practiced while the rest of the team worked on their monologues. at the end of the session, they came in and gave us a run through. i don't know what the rest of the team thought, but i thought it was pretty good. the only thing that i noticed was their energy level. it really sounded like they had been practicing for awhile and had become tired of it.

i went over the monologues with the team, talked to some of them one on one, while becky went around to hear them read the monologues aloud. i got some of the other monologues which i need to work on in the next few days.

after the monologues, i went through a small exercise with the kids, to help them imagine, help them concentrate a bit. it was similar to a dream exercise but without the motion. i forgot to ask how many people were coming to the party this saturday.

afterwards, i was outside w/ tony, sara, and becky talking about triple helix. after a bit of discussion, tony and sara thought that it would be too much for the congregation as a whole, considering how many mandarins would be there. they just wouldn't be able to understand it. when i was writing it, i pretty much accepted that no matter what i wrote, the most likely wouldn't understand anyway.

so the decision was made to possibly move the performance to this sunday, the 28th. which actually works out pretty well because the sketch is only about five minutes and pastor andy is speaking on the advent.

the last samurai

after drama, i was going to see the last samurai w/ the boys. but by the time we finally wrapped up, i was already 5 minutes late. by the time i reached the theatre, i would probably be 15 minutes late. considering previews, it would end up being closer to 5 or 10. i decided it was better off that i didn't rush.

it actually turns out pretty well, 'cause i get to blog and saves me a bit of money as well.

riaa

in a recent court order, the riaa has been put down a bit. the overwhelming behemoth of money and greed has been slowed for a short while. wether this will actually benefit us in the future or not still remains to be seen. it's definately a step forward for the little people though.
