Chronicles of Narnia: The Movie
comment
Slashdot: News for nerds, stuff that matters:
"'It has been confirmed that the The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe will be made in New Zealand as part of a five film line-up of C.S. Lewis's Narnia fantasy book series, with New Zealander Andrew Adamson of Shrek fame as its director. Filming begins next year, and Weta Digital has already started the graphics work. Also reported at the BBC and HeraldTribune.com.'"
i know they tried making the narnia series back in the day on pbs, but from what i remember, it wasn't all that great. granted, i didn't get to watch the whole thing, but the bits and pieces that i did catch just weren't exciting.
shrek was pretty good, there were points where it kind of dragged. but overall, the creativity and the charm was very refreshing. hopefully, narnia will live up to all our expectations in the same way lord of the rings has.
women's ncaa volleyball
yesterday, i was just sitting around, flipping channels, and turn to espn2 to see women's ncaa volleyball. just watching these girls play puts my volleyball skills to shame. they'r jumping around all over the place, making these huge smashes and blocks. they're all jacked and huge, the shortest of which is 5'11". their thighs are like tree trunks and get massive air when they jump.
palisades plaza
steve, jwu, and sean and i went to palisades to do a little bit of shopping. the first store that we hit up is morning glory. i spent most of the time wandering the store, feeling very lost and out of place. there was so much pink and light blue everywhere, it was hard for my eyes to focus on any single object. every once in awhile, i'd randomly pick up something and look at it, not really looking for anything in particular or finding anything particularly interesting about that particular item.
at the back of the store, we saw a sign that said if we spent 30$+ USD we'd get a free poster. 30$ isn't hard in a store full of overpriced murchandise. steve kept insisting that i buy something so that they would be able to get a poster because i was in search of a 10$ USD gift for cut-throat santa. sean found this ghetto ghetto yugioh shirt that had great camp value, but definately not worth 10$ USD.
as we continued to walk around the store, i came to the cell phone dangley section. i saw a few that i thought were really cute. really shiny and sparkly. but when i went to look at my phone, i found that there was no where to attach the dangley. i was rather upset because i didn't even have the option of attaching one if i so desired. and yet, i continued to look at the dangleys.
while jwu and steve were paying for stationary, sean and i overheard a little girl, maybe in late junior high trying to spend 130$ USD on yugioh cards. she wasn't sure what she wanted or what she should get. one of the store clerks was being "honest" and explained to her why a box of boosters cost 145$ USD.
you see, we buy them for 3$ a pack. there are 36 packs in a box. so that costs (the store clerk looks at me and sean for the answer and waits a very long time) 108$. we have to mark it up 40%. which brings it to 145$
first of all, it costs 3$ USD on the strett for a pack of yugioh cards. and if you were to purchase a box of said boosters, it should run around 90$ USD tops. and even then, that's considered pricey. i felt bad for the girl as she was clearly being ripped off. not wanting to interfere with the store's business, i turned around to comment on it w/ sean.
arby's
sean's dad opened another arby's, this one here at palisades. we stopped by his shop, said "hi", and got us some food. arby's food is pretty decint. it's nothing spectacular, but it's definately a good change from the normal burgers. i haven't had much opportunity to have a lot of their food, but from what i have had, it's pretty decint. so far, the best sandwich is the beef & cheddar.
the bread and sauce give it this sort of sweetness while the melted cheddar gives it that cheesy salty taste. the beef is seasoned nicely as well. the fries, just like any other place are best hot.
the first time i tried their chicken fingers, they were dry and hard. this time, they were a lot better. moist and crispy.
i had the beef & provolone that's been in the commercials as of late. and it wasn't too bad. the beef was seasoned italion style. the whole sandwich was rather larger at least 50% larger than other sandwiches.
ebx
while we were at ebx, we picked up the box for ridge racer evolution. on the back, was this very shapely, very hot cg girl in a racing slightly unzippered uniform. looking at the picture, we started commenting on where graphics have gone in the past few years, creating girls that were amazingly realistic.
as we were looking at the box, sean commented about final fantasy x-2 and the hot girls in it. he made the argument that even his white friends thought that the girls were hot. in fact, they wanted to play the game, knowing they couldn't save, just to get the different girls' outfits. some of them commented: (while watching the intro) "is it wrong to get a hard on right now?" "i may have to take this strategy guide with me into the bathroom", and so on.
as seen on tv
for some reason, we stopped inside this store. maybe for the camp value and a good laugh. most of the items we found inside were useful, in the sense that they did what they were supposed to. but not useful in the sense that you would need it every day.
while we were heading out of the store, i saw a 10$ USD nose hair trimmer. i was actually tempted to pick it up, but 10$, i was a bit scared at the quality/capabilities of the small device. steve made the comment that "for something like that, i'd be willing to spend a little more money, just to be safe", which i totally agreed with.
pc bong
yes, there is a pc bong at palisades. while we were walking past it, i noticed that one of the people were playing gunbound. we went inside to take a peek at him.
it seemed like he was of pretty good ranking. it looked like he was a silver battleaxe.
the thing that we were perplexed about is why you would spend 5$ USD/hour playing gunbound. that's maybe 2 games for 5$ if you're lucky and get into games quickly.
eb games
yes, we were just at ebx, but sean was in search of the strategy guide to show us the hot girls. we failed to find the guide at ebx. we were able to find it here, and some of the pictures they had of the girls was really hot. some of the outfits were rather odd in terms of fashion, but others were very flattering to the digital models.
legal seafood
legal seafood probably isn't the best name for a seafood restaraunt.
lost
as we were making our way out of the mall, steve realised that he had left his stationary at the food court. an hour had passed since we ate at arby's. we figure, it was worth a shot.
we went back to the place where we ate and looked around. alas, to no avail.
yg
after worship, todd shared his testimony with the kids. it was a good shake to the kids because most of them didn't know him when he first came to church.
while he was describing his physical appearance back in the day, john chang pulled out an old picture to circulate which thoroughly embarressed todd. it gave those that knew todd a good laugh.
after todd's testimony, pastor tim addressed some of the issues of why we study the bible and why it's important to know who john was. ptim actually covered other things that i think were really pertinent to the kids. wether it actually sunk into their thick skulls or not is another matter.
after his talk, we played a little game. we split up into two teams. each team, using chairs from their side of the grange built a wall. a piece of paper was given to each person. each person then used the paper to make a paper airplane. the goal, was to throw paper airplanes into the other side. after a set period of time, whoever had the most planes on their side lost. planes that fell between the 2 walls was considered out of play.
after the game was over, we realized that we probably should've just held onto the airplanes as they were thrown at us. horde them all till the last second, and then hurl them over the partition.
q's
after yg, we went to applebee's to chill a bit. after applebee's, we gave dave a call. but he was busy so we couldn't go over. we decided to go to q's place and play some gamecube.
we started off by playing some smash brothers melee. steve and jwu were relatively new to the game, so didn't really know what they were doing. the best was all the little vendetta's we'd have on people.
every once in awhile, q would play as nes and just sit on the edge of the map sniping. steve would then attempt to pound on q for his annoyance. in a similar way, todd would sometimes choose jigglypuff and camp w/ his spin move. so we had no choice but to gang up on him. we spent most of that time just running around the board chasing him. eventually, we'd corner him and just throw everything at him.
after melee, we played some mario kart doubledash. again, steve and jwu were new to the game. the whole time, todd, steve, and i would fight jwu and q for 7th place. we are so terrible at the game that it just became hilarious.
after doubledash, we played some soul caliber 2. mainly to see the girls. of course, they weren't as good as the x-2 girls, but that's alrite. the game as a whole was okay. and we didn't really get into it.
after soul cal, we went back to playing some melee. this time, we tried some of the alternate modes of play. we played in slow-mo, lightning fast, giant size, mini size, some to more hilarity than others.
