After the movie, we went downstairs to play some Hold'em. I showed off my chip tricks a bit before we started. It was a decint sized game of 7 people. It's interesting playing with the kids because none of them are really that good. They have an idea of how to play, but it feels like they're more enamoured with the idea of bluffing than with actually playing. It's pretty easy to look at the board and look at them and see what they have. When you have almost everyone seeing the flop, you know that a) everyone has amazing hands or b) they really don't know how to play.
It's difficult, because sometimes they get lucky and make their hands. Brian had one such crazy hand. a 7-8-9 diamond came out on the flop. He held 5-6 diamonds in his hand. Basically, Brian flopped a straight flush. The numbers against him are insane. If the probability of the straight flush so astronomical, I wouldn't have believed he had it. At best, I would have put him on the nut flush.
I got knocked out in the middle and played some Smash Brothers Melee with Dan. I schooled him with my DK suicide attack. Unstoppable. Overall, we were fairly evenly matched. I wasn't really playing serious, and I don't think he was either. All in all, it was fun.
It took them forever to finish up their game before we were able to start the second round of Hold'em. This time, we had 8 players. It started out really tight. People were playing better hands and playing a little better over all. Spencer got knocked out early by Pat to unlucky flop. Spencer had Pat beat until the river. The next major hand was between Andrew, Vincent, and myself. Andrew had gone all in on the flop. Both vincent and I had more chips, so we started the side pot. On the turn, I put Vincent on a flush draw, so was I, but I figured my Q was better than whatever he had. I smacked him in the face and asked him how many chips he had and pushed him all in. On the river, we both made our flushes. Vincent apprantly had some more chips, so he bet, and I called. He showed me a 6. My Q won the day. Andrew had a boat, I think, so won the pot. But the side pot was far larger. So I knocked out Vincent.
I became massive chip lead and started pushing people around. My huge stack intimidated everyone and aloud me to steal a lot of pots.
I eventually knocked out 3 other people. It was down to the final 3, Brian, Pat, and myself. The last hand I played of the night was when I pushed Pat all in. I had K-8 suited, and he had 5-7 offsuit. I had him beat, all the way. The flop comes 6-K and something else. I flopped top pair. There was basically nothing that could save him. Then the turn, a 4 comes out. Now Pat had an outside straight draw. Then the miracle card comes out, a 3, giving Pat the straight. I wasn't out, by any means, but Pat was back in contention.
It was late, so I gave my chips over to Vincent and headed home.
