all you can eat sushi
After work, a bunch of us from work went for all you can eat sushi: Keith, Rob, Rob's girlfriend Danielle, Nick "Dell", Peter, Clifton, Dave and myself.
We took the ferry into the city, it was my first time and it was pretty good. The sea breeze in your face, it was very pleasant. The ease of access from work to the ferry is a godsend. The ferry also provides busses to different parts of the city, like 42nd street and downtown and others.
It's been awhile since I've been in the city. Walking around, riding the subway, it reminded me of just how there's so much to do. I can see the city just by looking up from my desktop. There's so many places to eat, so many different things to do, granted, it all costs money. But that's okay. Just thinking about the possibilities made me realize how great it is living here in Jersey. I can hop on a train, a bus, or whatever and get to the city. I can try foods that don't exist anywhere else in the world. I can buy clothes that I wouldn't find. I can see shows that exist no where else.
When we got to the sushi place, Clifton put a Dell mousepad on the threshold for us to all wipe our feet on. Nick, the Dell guy, was there already and Clifton offered it as a gift.
We ordered drinks, and I shared a glass of sake with Keith. This was the first time I had sake and I was quite pleased with it. It's not strong when it comes to alcohol, but the flavor is quite pleasant. It has a very unique taste that can only be compared to wine. It was quite pleasant.
Keith started ordering for our side of the table. He ordered 2 dragon rolls, 6 spicy tuna rolls, and 2 california rolls for himself. Rob and I both looked at each other and were like, "I don't think we want that much spicy tuna", so it got bumped to 5. Then it got bumped to 4. I wish we had bumped it to 3, then I would have had more room for the salmon.
The dragon rolls were alright. A little too much rice and it was kind of big and unwiedly. The roll consisted of eel, avocado, and something else.
I taught the guys how to fold the little chopstick holders out of the chopstick wrapper. I also taught them how to mix the wasabi in with the soy sauce.
The spicy tuna was nothing to cry home about.
The salmon was pretty good. It seemed pretty fresh. We also tried this chicken tempura handroll, which was pretty good too.
It was a wonderful dinner. The food was pretty good considering it was all you can eat. The best part about it was the company. These are a group of amazingly funny guys. All very fun and very knowledgeable.
