sara s place
After Bach's, we went over to Sara's place to try and finish off her left over ribs.
9:00 PM EST rolled around, and M and I were expectantly waiting for Alias to come on. Instead, what we got was Super Millionaire. I thought they were done with this trash? Apparantly, they hadn't thrown enough money around.
Luckily, the series finale for Sex and the City was on, so we watched that instead. I had only seen the first season years ago when it came out on DVD. Stayc picked up a copy and we spent a few days watching it. I thought the show was cute, and was actually semi hooked to it. Not hooked to the point where I went and downloaded every episode, but enough that I enjoyed it.
I had seen some stuff about the series finale, mainly from Conan. It's kind of sad that my primary television news source is Late Night with Conan O'Brian. I wasn't exactly excited to see the finale, considering there was no Alias, it was a good option.
The finale was pretty good, considering I hadn't watch the interregnum seasons. Sara caught us up on what had been happening most recently, so I felt as if I had watched the whole thing. Part of me wanted it to have one of those, "Previously, on Alias" introductions. The finale was happy without being sappy, which is extremely difficult to do.
After Sex and the City, HBO had this other weird show on. We watched it briefly, but had no idea what was going on or where it was going. It was around 10:00 PM EST, so I changed it to Cartoon Network to watch Teen Titans. I was never a huge fan of Teen Titans, but it has kind of grown on me since. I don't watch it every weekend, but it's good filler between Alias and Samurai Jack.
This was the first time that Sara ever watched Teen Titans, so I summed up the premise thusly, "Teenage superheros that don't really solve crime, yet everyone wants to kill them." Pretty accurate if I say so myself.
After Teen Titans was Samurai Jack. Again, Sara had never seen. I talked about what was so great Jack. I loved how the story was told not through dialogue or exposition, but through the images and action on screen. The writers allow the different colors and locales and music speak for themselves. The animation is also beautifully stylized. At first, I thought the animation was just lazy and terrible. But after watching a few episodes, I finally saw the care that they took in the animation. Now, I am thoroughly hooked. I havn't gotten to the point where I downloaded and burned every episode, but I'm close.
Then there was Adult Swim. We went through the black white cards, through Home Movies, Harvery Birdman, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, all of which kind of threw Sara for a spin. These aren't your traditional cartoons and they don't deal with tradition subject matter. For the uninitiated, it can all seen very odd.
The oddest thing, even for Adult Swim, was the Holiday title cards. I don't know if they picked these up on a sale or what, but they would show interludes of nutcrackers, roast turkeys, minoras, Christmas trees, and the ilk, and wishing everyone a happy holidays. When I saw the picture of the roast turkey, especially the turkey leg, I gravitated to M's leg, poking at it to see how tender it was. I went so far as to try and take a bite out of it. She yelled at me for thinking her leg was a turkey leg.
It was getting late, so we said goodbye to Sara and I dropped M off.
