daves super bowl party

after driving around for 15 minutes, i went to dave's super bowl party. normally, i'm not a big fan of the super bowl or football in general. but things are different when theres a financial investment in it.

they started a pool, and since jdc only had a dollar, he bought 1 of the 100 squares. i had no idea how pools worked, but i figured a 1/100 chance was pretty bad. but someone explained it to me.

you make a 10x10 board of 100 squares. the top edge is labeled randomly w/ one of the teams. the other edge, the other team. then numbers are randomly chosen to number each column and row. these numbers represent the second number of that teams score.

jdc got the square w/ the numbers 0,9. 0 for the panthers and 9 for the patriots. so any score, where the panthers have a 0 as the second number (0, 10, 20, etc.) and the patriots would have a 9 as the second number (9, 19, 29, etc.) we would win.

the whole time, jdc and i would just figure out ways that we could get our presious 0,9. and no matter how skeptical some of the more "experienced" football people were, we kept faith. when the patriots made their 2 point conversion to 29, we thought we had it in the bag. all we needed was for the panthers to get their 2 point conversion to end w/ a final score of 30, giving us 0,9.

no, they were pansies and had to play it safe and get the 1 pointer.

dave spent some time mixing some drinks. tony and i did some shots together. but not enough to really make a dent. i felt warm, but that's about it.

i tried dave's mellontini, not the butchered verseion that tasted like cough medicine at his wedding. the first one i tried was from a highballer and was pretty good. it went down smooth but still had the bit of burning that comes from good liquor. then he mixed another version w/ triple sec, which made it a little sweeter. it made it very light and a little girly. m, you would really like it. later, dave mixed this other drink that tony let my try. it tasted like water w/ a little bit of alcohol in it. i yelled at tony for having a sissy drink.

afterwards, jdc and i watched a bit of tv w/ evelyn, dave's sister and alan, evelyn's boyfriend. they were introduced to space ghost coast to coast and aqua teen hunger force. neither of which the uninitiated really understood.

minotry report was on one of the hundred channels that dave has, so we watched a bit of it before joining dave and some of the other guys to just talk.

jdc spent a few hours w/ dave, just kind of catching up and trying to give him our support and encouragment the best we could.
