Cable Out

so i wake up around 2pm est and find that my cable is out. no tv, no internet. so wahat am i supposed to do on a snowy afternoon? let's play gba and watch the second disc of two towers.

my cable ended up being out till around 7 ish at night. that's when i tried to watch some tv. it was probably back on sooner than that.


two towers

after watching the full extended version of two towers, i can see why those chose to cut these scenes. not that the scenes were bad, but they were really just extra padding for those who've read the books. considering that the movie is 3hrs+ as it is, they chose the right scenes to cut.


pi

after two towers, i wanted to watch something kind of light hearted. too bad i picked up pi instead. i don't know why i chose it. but i had a good time watching it.

for those of you who don't know. pi is the first major film by darren aronofsky who also did the amazing requiem for a dream.

the film is about a genius mathematician looking for patterns in the stock market. some jewish mistics approach him to see if he can find a pattern in the torah (the first 5 books of the bible). in the process drives him insane.

the film is very dark, both in cinematography as well as subject matter. it also challenges the mind a bit and forces you to think about numbers and math. artists should stay away.

the film is shot in black and white, which my detract some people. the acting is fine, nothing really ground breaking, but it's not bad either.

i would recommend this film to anyone who's looking for something that will engage them. a solid 4/5.


justice league

i was chatting w/ sean online and he was telling me about the newest episode of justice league. i had missed the first showing at 10pm est, so i caught the one at 1am est.

and i'm glad i caught it. the episode is rather silly. its a cross between reality tv hosted by the joker and 24. the justice league have to run around the town finding these bombs the joker hid while, at the same time, a team of five w/ superpowers (streatch, super strong, control magnetism, shoot fire) try to stop them. the fifth member (makes people go insane by looking at them) sits out for the second half.

the episode had a lot of good one liners and just silly things happening. the way the story was told was really good and just made it more silly.

i normally don't like justice league that much. but this episode is definatly a winner.

sean kept talking about how ace (the girl who makes people go insane) is so powerful and this and that. i guess it was the hype, because after the second episode was over, i didn't think her powers were that great.
